A Regional Seminar On “Solid Waste Management”

UGG sponsored seminar on Solid Waste Management was organized by Sevadal Mahila Mahavidyalaya & Research Academy, Nagpur in association with Board of Studies in Environmental Science, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur on 18th and 19th March 2008

Inauguration:
            The seminar was inaugurated by the hands of Dr. Sharad Nimbalkar, Ex.Vice Chancellor, Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh Krushi Vidyapeeth, Akola. Dr. S. B. Zade, Officiating Chairman, Board of Studies, R.T.M. Nagpur University, Nagpur was the Guest of Honour of the function. Shri Keshaoraoji Shende, President, Sevadal Education Society presided over the function. Dr. Pravin Charde, Patron and Principal gave an introductory speech on this occasion.
            Dr. Nimbalkar in his inaugural speech stressed on the need of peoples participation in solid waste management for prosperity and development of the country. He said that Nagpur City generates 800 tonnes of solid waste daily which should be recycled properly.

First Technical Session:
            Dr. A. D. Bhide, Ex. Director, Grade Scientist, NEERI, Nagpur and Prof. R. R. Gawalpanchi, Department of Civil Engineering, VNIT, Nagpur were the guest speakers for the first technical session. Both speakers emphasized on three R’s i.e. Reuse, Reduce and Recycling of the wastes. 

Second Technical Session:
            In the second technical session Dr. SPM Prince William, Scientist, SWM Division, NEERI, Nagpur and Dr. Mrs. Shanta Satyanarayan, Ex. Deputy Director, NEERI, Nagpur focused on Organic Solid Waste Management and Hazardous Waste Management respectively.
 
On 19th March 2008, Sevadal Mahila Mahavidyalaya organised an awareness rally on Solid Waste Management. Large number of students from different schools participated actively in the rally.
            Mr. Vijay Ghuge, Co-ordinator, Nisarga Vidnyan Sanstha, Nagpur explained the importance of Solid Waste Management and other aspects to the students.
