UGC sponsored National Conference on “Impact of Technology on Libraries and LIS Profession in India”, held on the dated 14th & 15th March 2008 at Sevadal Mahila Mahavidyalaya Auditorium, Nagpur. Total 161 LIS professionals and students participated in the conference, out of which 80 were the Librarians and Lecturers of various colleges and 81 were the LIS students.
The conference was inaugurated on the 14th March 2008 at 11.00 a.m. at the hands of Dr. A.L. Murthy Director, DESIDOC, New Delhi. He was the chief guest of the function, Dr. S. Seetarama, Ret. Professor, DRTC, Bangalore, was the Director of the National Conference, Dr. P. S. G. Kumar, Ret. University Librarian & Head, DLISc., R.T.M.N.U., Nagpur, was the key-note addressee in the function, Shri. Keshaoraoji Shende, President, Sevadal Education Society, Nagpur, was the President of the function and Dr. Pravin Charde, Principal of the college, Dr. Baburao Nandanwar, Secretary of the Sevadal Education Society, Nagpur, Mr. Shashikant Rokade, Librarian and Organizing Secretary these all were presided over the function. This function compared by the Mr. Ashish Lambat, lecturer of the college.
After the inaugural function first technical session began at 2.30 p.m. the dignitaries on the dais were Prof. S. V. Keserwani, Ret. Documentation Officer NEERI, Nagpur, Chairperson of the session, Ms. Chitra Rekha Kuffalikar, Librarian, Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur, Rapporteur General of the conference, Mrs. Shubhangi Deshpande, Librarian, Kamala Neharu College, Nagpur, Rapporteur of the session. In this session first theme paper presented by the Dr. S. Seetarama and his title of the research paper was “Information Professionals in a Digital Environment knowledge skills and Roles”. Second theme paper presented by the Mrs. Shalini Lihitkar and her title of the research paper was “Model Curriculum for IT Applications paper: A proposal”.
On the same day second technical session began at 4 p.m. The dignitaries present on the dais were Dr. Pramod Dakhole, Librarian, Shri. Ayurved College, Nagpur, Chairperson of the session, Shri. Eknath Raut, Librarian, Mohata Science College, Nagpur, Rapporteur of the session. In this session first theme paper was presented by the Dr. (Mrs.) D. Rajyalakshmi, Reader & Head, DLISc. RTMNU, Nagpur and her title of the research paper was “Moving Ahead with Times: E Governance Paradigm in India”and the second research paper was presented by the Dr. (Mrs.) Vaishali Choukhande, title of her paper was “Developing of IL program Module for students to promote open source access in Academic Libraries”. The next paper presented by Shri. Prince Ajay Agashe and his title of the paper was “Selection of O/s Software for college repository” and the last paper in this session presented by Shri. Ashok Khobragade, whose title of the paper was “Copyright and Librarianship”.
The next day on 15.03.2008 at11.00 a.m. third technical session started. The dignitaries present on dais were Dr. P.S.G. Kumar, Chairperson of the session, Mr. Ashok Khobragade, Librarian, Manoharrao Kamadi Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur, Rapporteur of the session. During this session first theme paper presented by the Dr. Ravikant Deshpande, Librarian, VNIT, Nagpur and his title of the research paper was “Digital Libraries: Conceptualization efforts made by VNIT, LIRC, Nagpur”, and the next research paper presented by the Dr. (Ms.) Thrity Patel, Prof. & Head, P.G. Dept. of Law, RTMNU, Nagpur and her title of the paper was “Legal Aspects of Information”.
The fourth technical session started on the same day at 12.30 p.m. The dignitaries present on the dais were Dr. K.O. Mandgaokar, Librarian, Abasaheb Parvekar College, Yavatmal, Chairperson of the session and Mr. C. Pande Librarian, C.P and Berar College, Nagpur, Rapporteur of the session. In this technical session various college senior LIS professionals presented the total six papers. This session was then followed by a software demonstration and product presentation of SLIM21 by Shri. Samir Bhujbal.
At the end of the Conference the valedictory function was held at 4.00 p.m. on the same day. The dignitaries present on the dais were Hon’ble. Dr. A.L. Murthy, the Guest of Honor, Dr. P.S.G. Kumar, the Chief Guest, Dr. S. Seetarama, Director of the conference, Dr. Pravin Charde, Principal of the college, Chairman of the function and Ms. C. R. Kuffallikar, Rapporteur General of the conference. This function was compared by the Mr. Shashikant Rokade, Organizing Secretary of the National Conference and the function ended with the rendering of Pasayadan.
The two days National Conference was the great success. Thereafter organizing committee brought out the post conference volume manifesting charming memories of the conference and research papers of the dignitaries as well as the senior LIS professionals and other participants of the conference.
